Wine bar in Southampton?

Hi all

Off to Southampton for work this evening. Any good places to try wine by the glass that are fairly central? Some light food would be ideal as well. Not sure I fancy yet another hotel bar!

Thanks

Paging @JayKay!

I almost laughed out loud when I saw this. Good wine in Southampton, the ultimate oxymoron. I am afraid you are going to struggle. The one place I had in mind has, I discovered when I googled it for the address, just closed.

Oxford Street is the epicentre of the food scene in Southampton so you might go there. This place bigs itself up and does serve Wine by the glass that includes a dry muscat, a picpoul and a white Rioja so at least a little. It interesting. Have t been there.

There is a very fine microbrewery at the Platform Tavern on Town Quay. Also does food. I have enjoyed the beer there and food was ok. They often have live music too. Nice place.

One more suggestion! This place used to be only a b&b but I see now has a deli counter and serve wine.

The Pig in the Forest is a very well reviewed hotel restaurant and the Pig in the Wall ((Sothampton’s Medieval wall or what is left of it after 1939-45) is an outpost that transports folk to the New Forest restaurant. This might be the one. Let us k ow of you go there.

Thanks! Thought it might be a struggle

I’m staying on Oxford St so will take a look at those suggestions and let you know where I end up!

Well - traffic and a bike ride meant I arrived late and settled in to…

Drum roll

The hotel bar… Although it is also a pub on Oxford St (White Star). Rooms are lovely, bar food was ok. Just about to try a glass of their carmenere…
