Had this on my watch list and had to pull the trigger with a reduction.

Chinon Cuvées Domaine de la Noblaie 2017 Pre Mixed Case (thewinesociety.com)

I’ve quite a few of various cuvees from Baudry going back to 2014-16 and Noblaie’s Pierre de Tuf from 14 and 16 so these will provide a nice addition. 2017 supposed to be a decent vintage in Chinon, as has been every vintage back to 2014.

Did you try it on its own as an apero first? And what did you then eat with it?

We had it after 2 other wines (a Lambrusco as an aperitif, then the utterly lovely Capricho Godello with the starter) and it was mainly drunk with the main - which was salmon chermouleh. It worked lovely with it, but there was a bit left for after the meal, so we sipped it by itself too and it definitely got rounder, with the acidity becoming more balanced and honeyed/pear notes coming to the fore. A definite re-order for us.

Likewise, a case goes into reserves. Thanks for the nod.

In theory, there it can gather dust and mature / tertiary cab franc flavours. Except I will most likely draw down before the annual storage bill happens.

Good spot and fired a case into Reserves.

Making up in recent weeks for a shameful lack of Cabernet Franc based wines in my cellar. This purchase follows on from the excellent Undurraga TH Maipo CF and superb Lukas van Loggerenberg’s Breton.

Good to have examples spanning 3 continents!

Seconded. A really lovely wine at a good price. Pieropan can do no wrong, based on my experience of (several of…) their wines.

I wanted to try this Timo Mayer Pinot (from Vinified):

https://vinifiedwine.com/collections/all-wine/products/timo-mayer-close-planted-pinot-noir-2020

But since they have a min spend of £100 I’ve also added these which look interesting (nice name if nothing else!).

This red:

https://vinifiedwine.com/collections/all-wine/products/nusserhof-lagrein-riserva-2012

(it seems I bought their last bottle)

and this white:

https://vinifiedwine.com/collections/all-wine/products/nusserhof-b-bianco-2016

(I’m not even sure what the grape is)

Anyone with past experience of any of these (although I’ve already ordered so too late if its disappointing)?

The very same arrived here yesterday, and as per the 2014’s, in an OWC…

…the top case contains 3 x Pierre de Tuf BTW ( 1 x 2014, 2 x 2016 ). Both currently stashed in the stairwell with ten further six packs

My wife is a rose drinker and today arrived something I hope is going to have the WOW factor. I read about it some years ago but never found it until now. It’s called BABYLONSTOREN MOURVEDRE from South Africa and I bought it from The Newt in Somerset. I will open it tonight and report back on my findings. If I am right in thinking it scored 97 in Decanter when I read about it. It is in fact the wine of this years Chelsea Flower Show.

I’d love to try the lagrein. I’ve had a couple of varietals but never one in that price bracket ie. a ‘fine’ wine as opposed to a simple glugger. Given the right treatment I can easily imagine the grape providing some very fine wine.

Yes - thats exactly my own experience as well to date and so I had the same impetus to try it as you suggest

plus with a name like Nusserhof - how could I resist

This is also very interesting on the family of the proprietor:

I had my eye on this too, mainly for a party to accompany pizza fresh from the caterer’s pizza oven (I’ll provide a richer red for those who aren’t convinced by the ways of cab franc). Would that be a good idea? I want something fresh and gluggable but also with some interest.

I thought it was a fair price considering the EP release price 2 years ago

A case and a half case of halves. Gone for 3 of the excellent von Othegraven Kabinett to help prevent infanticide on some of my other wines. The Bonarda, the Cali Chardonnay half, the Julg Pfalz/Alsace…? Riesling, the Montalcino and the Pitnauer are all new to me. Sort of hoping to get the Kabinett rather than Spatlese Zilliken this time, but I’ll happily take the mistake again! The rest are familiar favourites.

And some very nice Pinot Noirs ! I was very much tempted. Good to see the varietals which don’t often make it to our shores. Look forward to tasting notes?

If only I had read your post before placing my order. That half of Tio Pepe en rama looks the bees knees.

Just to confirm it was a Kabinett from Zilliken this time.

I really enjoyed their other listed champagne so at £22 this must be worth a try.
