I’ve quite a few of various cuvees from Baudry going back to 2014-16 and Noblaie’s Pierre de Tuf from 14 and 16 so these will provide a nice addition. 2017 supposed to be a decent vintage in Chinon, as has been every vintage back to 2014.
We had it after 2 other wines (a Lambrusco as an aperitif, then the utterly lovely Capricho Godello with the starter) and it was mainly drunk with the main - which was salmon chermouleh. It worked lovely with it, but there was a bit left for after the meal, so we sipped it by itself too and it definitely got rounder, with the acidity becoming more balanced and honeyed/pear notes coming to the fore. A definite re-order for us.
Likewise, a case goes into reserves. Thanks for the nod.
In theory, there it can gather dust and mature / tertiary cab franc flavours. Except I will most likely draw down before the annual storage bill happens.
Making up in recent weeks for a shameful lack of Cabernet Franc based wines in my cellar. This purchase follows on from the excellent Undurraga TH Maipo CF and superb Lukas van Loggerenberg’s Breton.
My wife is a rose drinker and today arrived something I hope is going to have the WOW factor. I read about it some years ago but never found it until now. It’s called BABYLONSTOREN MOURVEDRE from South Africa and I bought it from The Newt in Somerset. I will open it tonight and report back on my findings. If I am right in thinking it scored 97 in Decanter when I read about it. It is in fact the wine of this years Chelsea Flower Show.
I’d love to try the lagrein. I’ve had a couple of varietals but never one in that price bracket ie. a ‘fine’ wine as opposed to a simple glugger. Given the right treatment I can easily imagine the grape providing some very fine wine.
I had my eye on this too, mainly for a party to accompany pizza fresh from the caterer’s pizza oven (I’ll provide a richer red for those who aren’t convinced by the ways of cab franc). Would that be a good idea? I want something fresh and gluggable but also with some interest.
A case and a half case of halves. Gone for 3 of the excellent von Othegraven Kabinett to help prevent infanticide on some of my other wines. The Bonarda, the Cali Chardonnay half, the Julg Pfalz/Alsace…? Riesling, the Montalcino and the Pitnauer are all new to me. Sort of hoping to get the Kabinett rather than Spatlese Zilliken this time, but I’ll happily take the mistake again! The rest are familiar favourites.
What a splendid mixed TWS case messers DHL brought me today - very pleased I took the plunge Sign in to your account
There’s Trollinger, Dornfelder, Scheurube , Sylvaner, Lemberger and all sorts of goodies.
And some very nice Pinot Noirs ! I was very much tempted. Good to see the varietals which don’t often make it to our shores. Look forward to tasting notes?
