Happy to report that I found these on the doorstep (as requested) today when I got home… will also try one soon.
You may have already be aware of this, but this vintage chart gives you a few places to consider, not so euro-centric as many other charts. Sorry to hear you’ve got a sad year to remember, but Sauternes / Barsac looks worth considering. Should be pretty reasonable prices too.
Ooh, I’ll be curious to hear what the carignan’s like…!
At the discount price it’s great value, not sure if I can hold out
Will definitely post my thoughts when we pop that cork!
Oooh, I just noticed this
Oh yes, you’ll need to buy a case
I’m about one third of the way through a bottle of this, and it’s very good as marc goes. Like you I have mostly found marc, grappa etc very harsh in the past. Lots of dried fruit, caramel and lavender(?); soft enough to be pleasant but still with a bit of bite. It doesn’t seem to have much C9DP character to me though. Certainly good value for money.
I held out for at least, ooh, a fortnight since my last order. Willpower disappeared when somebody, I can’t remember who, drew my attention to this Langhe Dolcetto-Nebbiolo blend:
Then I had to make up a case for reserves due to lack of space/risk of wife apoplexy if I’d had more wine delivered here. So I ended up with this:
You lot are enablers, all of you.
Edit - especially, in this case, @Aspedini who I’ve now remembered was responsible for flagging the Poderi Colla over on the weekday drinking thread…
Are you using Krug to water a lettuce?
Really should not have started to peruse the 1874 Magazine this afternoon… after the Meursault I also came across a wine from the Azores. Very happy memories of a holiday on the island of Faial with a good view of Pico, home of this wine.
Definitely sold on the description by Freddy and the mention of Assyrtiko. A case may be Wimbledon bound. Especially as I am sipping an Assyrtiko as the football
bores me to death unfolds.
Thanks Akos, that will almost certainly make its way onto my next order!
As luck would have it, I ordered a towbar for my new Skoda car but which was 2 weeks late and so, after affecting indignatory grumpiness for my inconvenience, I was offered, bless 'em, £150 off a treat of my choice and so the no-brainer rejoinder was an order from TWS. Free wine ! What’s not to like !!! Would anyone disagree with my selection ?..
Oops… I couldn’t resist!

Ordered a case for dad and couldn’t resist tacking a couple of bottles on to make up that perfect 15 bottle-sized box. Three grapes or blends totally new to me, that look good for summer:
Edit: Wines for my dad below, he’s now appreciating Greek wine. He loved the Ktima Foundi, just hope he likes the Karydas as much
