What with the added La Petite Chapelle 2013 from Vivino last night and seeing Fontodi pop up on the list this morning, it’s been an expensive 12 hours. Had Charmail in a recent mystery boxed and really liked it.
I’ve been wanting to try that Fontodi for a while but never quite seem to catch it on the list when I’m making an order I love their Vigna del Sorbo despite it’s steadily inflating price.
Top up order for the summer. Cheap and cheerful… it was meant to be mainly whites for summer drinking but was seduced by all the reds being discussed on the community and I love Brighton gin.

As I mentioned earlier, I loved their Clayhill Chardonnay from the same vintage so optimistic I’m getting something tasty. However, I see CellarTracker drink-up date is 2039 (TWS 2028)!! Should I be treating this like a Premier Cru Chablis and just forget about it for a few more years? @horsleym , I’d love to hear any insights you can share about the expected development curve of this wine.
To be honest I’ve absolutely no idea… Whilst I’m sure the wine has the ability to last and be drinkable in 2039 I’m not sure I’d stake my reputation on it. The wine is very impressive right now (extremely concentrated with pretty intense classically ‘English’ tart green apple acidity) however I certainly think it’ll be better in 2-3 years time. As you’re already familiar with the Clayhill and enjoyed it I think you could broach it now and be happy but those new to the style I’d suggest holding for another two years or so before cracking on.
I was tempted by this because I was allocated 6 bottles of this Shiraz as part of a VCP and found it delicious. I haven’t seen many other Yalumba wines appear on the list. I will of course post some notes.
One of my absolute all time favourite wines from the old employer.
The Signature, FDR1A & The Menzies probably being the others.
And then the Grenache wines + the single vineyard stuff they do are pretty special also.
@laura or @Kelly - is it possible to ask Freddy if he could secure or has any plans to release the Yalumba Hand Picked Shiraz/Viognier on to the main list? Don’t think I’ve ever seen it but aware a few people have received/enjoyed it as part of a VCP.
Thanks very much. There was noticeable development in the Clayhill between release and about 8 months after that so was probably going to leave alone for at least a year, but might just have to ratchet up my patience levels
Edit: No plans to buy that wine currently as he only has so many listings available, but he is in discussions with Yalumba at the moment so we should see a few new things coming from them in due course!
Not in my basket but a wedding gift I sent to a very dear couple tying the knot next Monday. We’re sadly missing the festivities due to the recent surgery (the wedding is in Wales) but half a dozen of these should hit the spot.
