Ordered this yesterday contrary to financial sense.
I know this thread is about what’s in your basket, but it made me think about reserves and ordering.
Because of TWS policy on reserves I have none other than a few en primeur purchases not yet in country. As for the ordering/reserves policy and my well advertised financial situation It effects me as follows:
I can rarely afford to buy cases of 6 or 12
I cant afford the expensive wine
I can rarely add mid priced wines because I feel compelled to make an order up to take advantage of free delivery (a key thing for me)
I miss out on low stock/hard to find wines for the same reasons as above.
I know it is possible to order 1-2 bottles but is not cost effective.
On the other hand L&W (no connection etc) allow you to order/add small orders and order en premier by the single bottle. As a result I have 47 bottles in their reserves.
It is certainly a huge advantage for me to use them. My purchases with TWS would be a lot higher if I could just buy what I want at the time and worry about delivery later.
Big delivery today including this extremely enticing regional Italian red case

Mrs W was slightly perplexed by the number of boxes arriving…
My favourite moment was when the delivery man dropped off one teetering pile of cases from his sack barrow then said “I’ll just go and get the rest”!
No longer in the basket as pending delivery but really looking forward to these especially the NZ Pinot:
Couldn’t resist the latest Inbetweeners offer and topped up with some old favourites.

Yes, I think so, as I hadn’t seen it over the weekend, when I last checked. Not bad, eh?
Just noticed some 2015 dog point Chardonnay has appeared so had to add some to a pending order together with Julian Schaal Alsace Riesling
A late entry;
A critique of these would be useful. Feeling increasingly aware of how little I know.
Looks like a lovely order to me.
I haven’t drunk any of them, but a few of them are sitting in my rack/reserves and more than a couple on my wish list
Well, for what it’s worth, the ones I’ve drunk from that list have all been excellent!
Guigal CdR - '15 was excellent value for money
Les Jalets - I have a couple of '15 but not drunk yet
Raspail-Ay - discussed in recent drinking thread. Excellent now will be even better in the future
Thalabert - very good especially at that price. I paid £23. Bin-end?
This is method is not foolproof, as I’ve just discovered. This morning there were well over 100 bottles of Cartology, but suddenly there are ZERO.
Not sure if one person has bought the whole lot or a sudden rush or if it’s a stock error… Oh well, good for the bank balance!
I have experienced this too @ASmith Sometimes TWS takes a wine ‘off’ the list, even though there’s lots of stock. Perhaps it is to be sold again as part of a specific offer and they want to have enough stock to make the offer worthwhile?
The wine I knew of could still be ordered over the 'phone, so perhaps worth trying that if you made a note of the stock code? I’ve done this twice over the years.
Thanks @VinoVeritas. I just called and this is exactly what has happened, not sure yet if I will get one, but Member Services are kindly trying to ‘release’ one for me.
I love the way member services will so often go the extra mile for us. It would have been so easy for them to say ‘sorry, it’s a done deal.’
