Weekend Drinking Thread [17 Nov]

Thanks god it is the weekend again… starting with infanticide on this:

The nose is super intense waves and waves of it oozing out of the glass, dry Mosel riesling at its best.

What are you drinking this weekend?

@Nowt_in_my_glass That dolcetto does look like one to try… how does one stumble across such gems?

Blind chance! I can’t even remember ordering it!

This was lovely with some Chinese steamed sea-bass last night, Weinbach are one of the great Alsace producers in my opinion. Notice that a lot more Alsace wine at a range of price points has appeared on the WS website. Making the allocation of my wine budget even more of a juggling act!

Just opened another bottle of 2006 Weinert Cabernet Sauvignon to go with sausage and sweet potato mash. There was bit of risk, but it stood up very nicely to the sweetness of the mash.

I’ll be opening this tonight … The OH will be cooking a kilo of rib eye…, not sure what I’ll have yet as I’m not a big steak eater and we’ll probably hit some nice Gin afterwards ! He goes offshore Tuesday morning til January so planning a nice evening in tonight :+1:

To @Nowt_in_my_glass - Gary Player said, “The more I practice, the luckier I get”. Your translation of this is “Blind Chance” - I suspect it’s more to do with “You know when your obsessed with wine when you get plenty of delicious stuff heading your way through your obsessive attention to the list”

@robert_mcintosh and @DrEm whilst you might have a point, I think her father enjoys sharing his wine with people who appreciate it…and I am more than happy to oblige given his collection of mature Bordeaux and Rhône!

How was the Brunello? 2008 is supposedly a great vintage in Tuscany.

I really enjoyed it - I opened a bottle on Thursday night to test it and posted a description here

Wow! Complex, subtle honeyed elixir. Unplanned postprandial treat.

That sounds like medicine. Looks like an interesting bottle, I got a mixed case of 2016 Dönhoffs arriving soon.
