That’s a beauty, @Herbster! so nice to read Arabic again, too.
Have you ever tried their Arack?!..

I miss reading Arabic in everyday life! And I really don’t have time to study it right now…
No, haven’t tried theirs, although Arak with mezze is one of life’s unmissable pleasures!
I was holding the TWS Exhibition Pauillac and the Perret Merlot in my hands (not at the same time), but then stuck to #stoptober … phew day three done.
Good work! I fear that the next few weeks are going to be more like #drinktober for me. Perhaps I can have a #nomorevember.
Same here! 'twas one of my favourite subjects in school. It’s a joy to write, too. Makes Hebrew seem a little feeble
I’m not a big fan of Arack, though it might be to do with trying mostly cheap versions of it back home. Perhaps I should give it another go…
Well, if you managed to resist such temptations, you’re going to do just fine!
It was fun every now and again with a meal, and I always stuck to the local ratio of tilt w tiltein with water, but more often I drank beer when out and about in Beirut. To be honest, I’ve never bought Arak since coming back here, as I figured I’d probably try it once for nostalgia and then it’d just gather dust at the back of the drinks cabinet.
Great first post! If you’re going to post Dylan Moran videos you are going to be VERY welcome indeed!! I very much enjoy his standup about gin too:
My other half gets very twitchy if we ever watch Dylan Moran… Something to do with me going all gooey and misty-eyed, methinks…!
I LOVE Dylan Moran!!
It’s the accent, I think. He can say any old rubbish and I’ll just melt.
I remember sitting in a pub in Ireland many years ago, with a good friend - and we were chatted up by this group of men, using the most boring, corny (and damn outrageous!) chat lines. Still the accent just made it all sound like a sweet lullaby.
Stripper?.. no, sir, I am an English Graduate… ha ha ha… can you say it again? It sounded so cute!
Hahahaha !! I ALWAYS ALWAYS cringe when someone says “Top of the morning to you” , because I have never heard a fellow Irish man or woman utter those words
Haha! Glad to see some fellow Dylan Moran fans. Mr Laura and I quote Black Books on an almost daily basis! It’s a particularly good sitcom for wine fans…
Agree that an Irish accent is a thing of beauty, and never done justice by people who caricature it! I really should book a trip to Ireland someday…
Indeed! An Irish colleague said the same, when my other half insisted on the old boring ‘Top of the Morning’ salutation. God knows where it came from, but it’s addictive. We say it in our house all the time, sometimes in a Northern Irish accent, which gives it a bit of a strange questioning tone.
I think it may have been from Gone with the wind… but I could be wrong
My understanding is that it used to be in common use in Ireland but has long since fallen into disuse (probably largely because of it stereotypical use outside Ireland). A bit of googling reveals that it does appear in some Irish literature from the C19 but it would appear to have fallen out of non-stereotypical use around the turn of the century which would make it logical for most extant Irish people to have never heard it.
A good day. FedEx have just delivered my latest order and the Reynon 17, the Raspail 15 and the Rosine 13 have my entire attention. Maybe the Exhibition Crozes ce soir, just because I can.
My consumption this year has been very much in the “Doldrums,” but my interest and enthusiasm are back. And just because I was drinking very little wine, I thank the Lord that I didn’t stop adding to my reserves.
BTW, has anyone as yet tried the Raspail 15?
A fun weekend in store, methinks!!
Not yet, but I stopped by the showroom and collected a bottle (amongst others ) at lunchtime. Planning to try it over the next few days and may well go back for more.
Interestingly I also have the Rosine 13 tucked away, which is also due a try out!
Just for interest, I just checked and there are just over 10 (12 half bottle cases) remaining in stock.
It might be a shame to miss out on a fabulous grower from a fantastic vintage,
The 1990 Raspail-Ay Gigondas remains as one of my all time favourite wines.
