It seems that Japan is ground zero for the need to tighten up regulations with regard to their Whisky…

A little online googling shows that the unscrupulous are exploiting what is in a effect a very youthful international market, where the unwitting buy what they think to be genuine Japanese whisky that is nothing of the sort.

I don’t know why Scottish companies aren’t up in arms about it. Perhaps they can dump their cheap stuff onto the Japanese, who in turn ‘add value’ to the product by printing historic-looking Japanese labels, and adding a huge premium? Sort of like a Sub-Prime for the beverage world? Not good for consumers.

Perhaps because some are owned by Suntory?
