Hi everyone. I recently bought a bottle of Monteregio di Massa Marittima DOC Riserva 2018 from my local wine merchant in Wimbledon. I can’t find it anywhere, TWS doesn’t sell it and the merchant is all out. Do we know anything similar? It was very smooth.
I would have thought that brief is too general and you don’t specify the winemaker or even whether it’s a red or white (both can fit). Monteregio di Massa Marittima is fairly large chunk of southern coastal Tuscany to the W of Montalcino.

I vaguely remember this being a DOC which grows Syrah as well as Sangiovese. The key word here is probably Riserva. Italian Riservas are (usually) a high proportion of native grapes (in this case the Sangiovese), so you’d probably find similar things in a Chianti Riserva or other Tuscan reds that have spent a fair time in oak. That’s what’ll give you the smoothness.
Sainsbury has a TTD Maremma di Toscana in their range which you might find similar if you are looking for red.
Thanks everyone!
My favourite producer from the Maremma is Fattoria Le Pupille. Their top wine is Poggio Valente, but all are good. The Poggio needs a good few years’ age. Don’t rate the Sainsbury’s version too much (not surprisingly given the low price!)
