LIVE FROM 8PM: #TWSTaste: Wine Champions 2021, Thursday 22nd July, 8-9pm

Good afternoon/evening everyone :smiley:

Welcome to tonight’s LIVE virtual tasting of Wine Champions 2021.

If you’re new to The Community and need help with how to use the forum for the tasting and what the tasting involves, have a read of our guide 'How To - Take part in our virtual #TWSTaste events

We’ve chosen two wines that were crowned winners in our Wine Champions 2021 campaign and we’ll be taking the opportunity to try them together tonight!

The Wine Champions we’ll be trying are:

Bleasdale Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2019

Stadt Krems Stein Grüner Veltliner, Kremstal 2019

Who’s on hand to help tonight

We have some staff attending tonight, so please feel free to use the below usernames and tag any of us if you need a hand (and if you’re new to The Community, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you might have!)

@Kelly - Community Co-ordinator
@laura - Community Manager
@MrLaura - one of our wine advisers in Member Services

Here’s how things will work:

  1. We’ll post a poll to see who’s here - please let us know, and feel free to say hi and start chatting before we start.
  2. To begin, we’ll invite you all to pour a glass, have a swirl and take in the aromas, and post your thoughts and first impressions. Take your time and have a good swirl and sniff.
  3. We’ll then taste the wines together, one by one and ask you to share your own tasting note. Do add any additional food matches and/or your thoughts on how well the wine is drinking now, and how much longer it might age. Anything goes, and there are no wrong answers!
  4. After this, we’ll possibly have time to ask for your mark out of 10, favourite wine of the two or final thoughts.

And after that, if you want to continue chatting about the wines then please do!

We hope to see you tonight for this virtual tasting! :smiley: Feel free to start chatting below and we’ll get going officially at 8pm.

We’ll get started at 8pm, but first we’ll do a poll to see who’s joining us tonight!

  • I’m here!
  • I’m lurking…
  • I don’t have the wines, but I’m joining in anyway.

Let’s get started with tonight’s Wine Champions tasting with the Bleasdale Adelaide Hills Chardonnay 2019!

If you’ve poured a glass, then give it a swirl and a sniff - let us know your notes on depth of colour and aroma!

Woops! I’ve poured the Gruner accidentally…be right back!

Slight petrol.

I’m not getting too much on the nose…mine is chilled but I’m wondering if it needs to warm up a tiny bit…

Yes, a very refreshing colour I would say

Ooh I’m getting what you mean with the petrol! It’s almost nail varnish remover-y, but maybe that’s just the alcohol. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Some apricot notes too I think!

Actually I like it, I get quite a bit of vanilla bit also some fruit when I try hard, whether it is pineapple or peach…

Mrs CC: getting oil/petrol, some pear drops and there’s a silkiness to the aroma. Doesn’t punch you on the nose but creeps round it.

Mine’s also a bit too cold so I think I can smell wet straw but I might be reading from the colour!

Mrs CC: Vanilla’s a good shout

I love this note!

Would maybe like a bit more fruit, you have to try quite hard to get it

Right…got the right wine now!

Think this is too cold at the moment, but there’s a fair bit going on still. There’s citrus fruit there, but the oak dominates the nose. Definitely getting that little bit of petrol too!

Ah, it’s the oak I was smelling as wet straw
