Me too! Not a wine I know anything about - so should be fun…
Love this wine!
Hello everyone! Let’s get started!
Have a swirl of your wine, take a look at its appearance, and have a sniff. What do you think?
Don’t forget to start your post with the name of the wine so we can keep track!
Exhibition Vinho Verde
Much more golden than I was expecting! Getting both red and green apple, confected pear (in a good way), and this is going to sound really specific but it’s fresh in my mind because we had it for lunch…galia melon.
Monte Velho Esporao Branco 2019
Pale green/gold. Pear drops on the nose, fresh
Tim P here with my Rainha do Mar 2019 which is 100% Fernao Pires, which may be a little cold at 10 deg!
A bit late to the party tonight so I grabbed one of these while buying thank you presents for teachers
Intensely deep colour for a five year old wine, no sign of ageing in the glass at all. Fabulous nose of star anise, amerena cherries, coffee bean and cigars. Palate has slightly drying tannins but great intensity, sweet and sour fruit and a rich but balanced finish
Esporão Monte Velho Branco, Alentejano 2019
A wonderful golden colour - with stone fruit, on the nose - peach or pear, perhaps…honeyed
Society’s Exhibition Alvarinho Vinho Verde 2019
Mrs CC: Very pale yellow; masses of pear drops, faint hint of damp autumn leaves, visible slight spritz
Vadio Tinto 2007.
It looks wine-coloured! reasonably dark, no bricking.
It also smells like (mature) wine - I’m full of amazingly descriptive notes this evening. Damson, leather and spice. Not the deepest smell ever but really makes you want to get stuck in.
2016 Azamore Single Estate Alentejo red blend
This is a red blend of: 20% Syrah, 18% Alicante Bouschet 17% Touriga Franca, 17% Merlot 12% Touriga Nacional, 10% Trincadeira 6% Petit Verdot…
Deep ruby, with violet tinge on the rim - no sign of age in terms of colour. On the nose - quite complex: plums, spices (nutmeg, clove), sweet pipe tobacco, black pepper, violets. Really enjoying sniffing this!
Ooh, I’m not sure I’ve tried this grape! Have you had it before?
Anselmo Mendes Contacto Alvarinho 2015
Pale yellow. Pear and citrus nose. Fresh and slightly tropical.
Apricot, green apple skin, light floral note. Melon. At the end a hint of wet stone.
Dark red doesn’t even begin to do justice to this as anyone familiar with the dark fleshed alicante bouschet will not be surprised to see. It’s almost black!
Society’s Vinho Verde 2019
I’m finding this similar to yours, Chris, a pale gold colour, smells very fresh, with green apple, lemon and a touch of peach I think. Can anyone with more wine knowledge than me explain what I’m smelling when I’m smelling ‘freshness’? It smells so appetising, really looking forward to tasting!
So what do you think they need to add to round it out?
No - I’m curious…
This is a new grape on us - Loureiro
Oh wow! I think this is the oldest wine being tried tonight by quite some way. How long have you had it for? Do you know where it is in its drinking window?
