Welcome to tonight’s LIVE Fine Wine Champs virtual tasting.

We recently announced our Fine Wine Champions of 2020, so we thought this would be a good opportunity for us all to try two wines from this offer!

The wines we’ll be trying tonight are:

Domaine de Perdiguier Cuvée d’En Auger, Vin de Pays des Coteaux d’Ensérune 2009

‘How much?’ The question was asked twice upon this wine being revealed:
firstly in reference to the price (its outstanding value), and then regarding
how much stock we had managed to secure! A beautifully mature
Languedoc blend of Bordeaux grapes offering warmth, class and charm.

Olivier Leflaive, Bourgogne Oncle Vincent 2017

One of the stars of 2020’s tastings in any category: a knockout-value white Burgundy and a fitting tribute to the late and legendary winemaker ‘Oncle’ Vincent Leflaive. Everyone’s pens seemed to move a little faster when tasting this, such is its exciting combination of floral finesse and barrel fermented structure. A great success.

Who’s on hand to help tonight

We have some staff attending tonight, so please feel free to use the below usernames and tag any of us if you need a hand (and if you’re new to The Community, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions you might have!)

Here’s how things will work:

  1. We’ll post a poll to see who’s here - please let us know, and feel free to say hi and start chatting before we start.
  2. To begin, we’ll invite you all to pour a glass, have a swirl and take in the aromas, and post your thoughts and first impressions. Feel free to take your time and have a good swirl and sniff.
  3. We’ll then taste the wines together, one by one and ask you to share your own tasting note. Feel free to add any additional food matches and/or your thoughts on how well the wine is drinking now, and how much longer it might age. Anything goes, and there are no wrong answers!
  4. After this, we’ll possibly have time to ask for your mark out of 10, favourite wine of the two or final thoughts.

And after that, if people want to continue chatting about the wines then please do!

Any suggestions on whether the wines need time to breathe, be decanted etc.?

We’ll be there, but we only have the red. I assume that you’ll be starting with the white.

I think you don’t want the white too cold (though I think @lapin_rouge might disagree).

The red I’ve got no idea. It might throw up a bit of sediment, it might not be up to decanting. Mine has been upright for a day now, going to open an hour before and have a sip - will make my mind up then. TWS notes say drink up, but I’ve roped in two willing accomplices, so there’s no danger of it being left over and knackered tomorrow.

I’ve got the wines and will try to join in, but the lady will need a meal when she gets home from work, so it depends on how it clashes…

Just decanted the red and it’s got LOADS of sediment, so I’ve done it through a fine sieve and seems to be OK :+1:


I may be a bit late to the tasting due to some urgent work I have to complete, so apologies in advance…! :grimacing:

Oh yes. Just decanted and there’s quite a bit of sediment.

Red only for me this evening but can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts on the Oncle. May be a wine for us on Christmas Day. Too soon to be planning this?
