I don’t like scoring either, not in public anyway, whatever works best for you really. I prefer an expectational rating based on the price paid. If it meets or exceeds expectations,. then great, there’s a good chance I’ll buy it again. If it fails to meet expectations the opposite applies.

Scoring is very tricky, I agree. How do you score a style of wine you love vs a style of wine you just enjoyed? What if you know one wine is technically better than another but you just can’t help loving the lesser wine?

It’s like trying to score food. You can cook me the best roast chicken in the world but I’ll still probably prefer a well-made bowl of tomato pasta.

We have family there so visit about every four or five years or so - depends how long it takes us to forget how unbearable the flights are. Always try to visit somewhere different each time as well as seeing the family. Actually coping surprisingly well with the lockdown. The biggest downer is the closure of the gym we usually visit 3 or 4 times a week. Part of the fun of exercise is the other people.

Actually, I think I have fallen prey to the ‘mark down the expensive wine’ temptation. 8.5 is unfair. By any normal measure, this is a fabulous thing to drink and an easy 10 if it’s the style you like.
