I’d be intrigued to try it.
Lovely to hear!
In Rutherglen, sticky
Mac Forbes Spring Riesling 2019 - 8/10 for me. Seriously refreshing.
Wirra Wirra Vintage Bell Cab 2017 - 5/10 - super tight with some harsh edges but maybe better in a few years.
I used foodnetwork.ca (Canadian website ?!) and it was the roast prime rib of beef with horseradish crust - but it was a topside of beef and instead of roasting I slow cooked it. The recipe has all the accompaniments too, except the wine!
Crittenden Cri de Coeur savagnin sous voile 2013: I don’t like scoring at the best of times, and I really can’t make my mind up how much I like this. It’s clearly vin jaune inspired but much riper than any vin jaune I’ve had. Very intense - a small half glass is still zinging around my mouth. So I won’t give it a score, but would certainly highly recommend a trial bottle to anyone who can find one. It’s clearly very well made, regardless or whether I end up liking it.
Your best yet?
I love this! That’s exactly what these events are all about. And if you like intriguing wines, you’ll enjoy our ‘weird wines’ theme for next week’s tasting.

I’m really enjoying the sweet spice of this, and the finish goes on forever. I’m going 8.5/10!
Delayed, chatting to our neighbours in the street…
Campbell’s Rutherglen Durif 2015
Dark red, strong nose, blackcurrant, slight spice, vanilla
Low tannins, mid acidity, baked or burnt red fruits, not too heavy, good length.
Reminds me of malbec (but lighter)
Oh, Yeah! let me at it!
I think you are right.
2013 Mount Langi Ghiran Hollows Vineyard Reisling
Not great so marked accordingly. Bought in local small shop who normally produce a good quality bargain bottle. At £6.50 think they saw me coming.
3/10
I’m guessing you liked the Clonakilla wines because you were served some of their wines with a bit of bottle age. We visited them first in the early 90s when they were small, friendly and making really nice wines they were happy to share with you. Last time there they had gone seriously upmarket and a smartly dressed youngling in their swanky tasting boutique gave us homeopathic quantities of a wine so young and so tannic that we were glad she was stingy with the portion. No doubt it will mature nicely but not something to speculate on. Nothing else offered.
Um…depending on any further info emerging…I think I may have something…
Tanunda 2017, sure fire 8/10, which we’ve surprised ourselves at, could you describe an Aussie red as subtle? Well it was not overstated, which was good to discover.
I think I’ll pass the scoring stage this time around, but for future reference do people score relative to price or on an absolute basis?
1998 Eileen Hardy Shiraz
Well, totally bowled over so at least 9.5/10. Bet its still great in 5 years.
Where do we start here then? Define weird?
You neatly dodged the food question…nice…
I’m guessing it wasn’t SPAM…
