French road trip. Anyone have any suggestions?

#1

Esteemed Society Members and regular folk alike,

In 6 weeks or so, I’m going with the fam to do a bit of France in the Ardeche (canoeing) for a week and then I’m travelling onto Cannes and Antibes for a week (for work).

If anyone has any experience of wine related gems in those areas, I’m all ears. (The wine university near Vaison springs to mind). Any good, anyone?

I’m currently geeky for all things Bordelais but totally open to having my horizons broadened so maybe what’s your favourite Chateauneuf Du Pape for under 50 Euros - what should I try?

Hi Paul,
Apologies I’ve only just seen this . There is lots of travel tips under the “travel” category with great recommendations etc… this is just one thread but may help somewhat:

No worries at all. I’ll give it a look - thanks for the reply!

Since you ask, our favourite Châteauneuf for under £50 is Bosquet des Papes. Enjoyable tasting there too, and it is somewhat on the way between the Ardeche and Antibes.

I’d also recommend visiting Gigondas and going to the Caveau de Gigondas. All of the producers send one or two of their wines there to taste, so it’s a great opportunity to try out the appellation across the board.

On the other side of the Rhône, we also really enjoyed the amazing value wines at the Collines de Bourdic coop. It’s near Uzès and Nîmes, both of which are well worth a visit.

Thanks Robert, great stuff.

Avignon and Nimes are definitely on the cards so that’s perfect.
