Out of curiosity, did you try the Aldi Swiss Pinot Noir? @Inbar @Richard
By channeling my inner geek, and a bit of Python.
Yes, I did! My impressions were positive, and I have a few more in the rack when easy drinking (with some interest) is called for
There was someone else on the forum - I can’t remember who - who preferred the Aldi Swiss Gamay.
What’s the drinking window on the 2015/16s? I’m well stocked for Rioja here, but want to know whether I can justify dipping in to the offer
I drank some 2001 last autumn and it was still immaculate. I find they generally improve with a few years from release, but have a really long window
OOS on their website
I can’t think of a wine that keeps its red fruit character as long as Tempranillo. I opened some cheap 2001 Gran Reserva that I had kept in student housing, etc., since 2007 or so back in 2020 and it still retained it all. Insane stuff. Just barely tertiary.
There are lots of questions on here about wine storage and the impact of things like fluctuations in temperature. No-one ever seems to be able to offer any definitive empirical evidence, but a safe bet for me is that Rioja is bomb proof in this regard.
Yes, most wine ages, Rioja simply keeps.
Or so I concluded.
Not in my house it doesn’t
I gave the Pezenas another taste today, ‘harsh’ would be my description, so it’s gone into the slow cooker with some beef cheeks. The beef cheeks are so tough I had to re-sharpen my chef’s knife just to cut them! so a perfect match with the wine.
Thanks for the link Inbar.
No Pomerol at our local Aldi last week but loads of the Margaux Chateau d’arse ache which TWS is currently selling at £26, is drinking well now and has a 5 star customer review. I’ll be there nice and earley Monday morning when it’s due to be reduced to 9.99.
Oh…that damned spell checker!!!
Best. Wine. Name. Ever
I’m so pleased you haven’t edited this, gave me a proper chuckle!
Absolutely
Yep! Sums Bordeaux up pretty much
Please! Was going to place an order this weekend but will wait for the 2016 to land at the warehouse. I have enough 2015s so keen to stock up on the 16s now
