Any suggestions on interesting places to visit, on a short visit to Siena and Lucca? I have trawled websites, and identified some, but would be grateful for any personal experiences.
We were in Tuscany last summer for a week and visited a number of wineries:
North of Sienna Castello dei Rumpolla was a delight to visit, certainly one of our favourite stops, though a little out of the way - relatively small producer with some great wines. We had a private tour and tasting, very personal experience.
Can also recommend Antinori’s vineyard, again north of Sienna. It is an amazing structure, and whilst we didn’t bother with the tour, the rooftop restaurant was great, and serves their wines at very good rates!
We also went a little further afield and visited some of the super tuscan vineyards around Bolgheri (Ornellaia and Le Macchiole) as well as visiting Biondi Santi outside Montalcino.
I should add that we booked visits to all of these well in advance.
Thank you, very helpful
