Same here (plus it’s all I can afford ha). There were nearly 400 bottles available last night though.
The frankness of your notes is much appreciated. If you don’t mind another q and have an opportunity to answer, I’d be interested to know if the Exhibition Monthelie always came from Jadot. I used to buy it regularly while it was on the list, and I regret its disappearance. I never had the 2012 though.
For those that may be interested, I have posted a review of the The Society’s Exhibition Monthélie, Domaine Louis Jadot 2012 over in the Weekend Drinking Thread 26th - 29th May 2023 Bank Holiday whoop whoop - #29 by Templeton. I like it but with a very pronounced caveat emptor, so will be really interested to hear what others make of it.
I have a bottle waiting for this evening. Given what you say I’m considering decanting it much earlier than I might have done otherwise!
Hi, @Nfrost00, I would definitely advise that you do and maybe leave it standing for a few hours, before getting to work properly on it, as it would be interesting to know how much further it develops. Nothing divides opinion more than Burgundy and two people can have polar opposite perspectives, in every way, to the same wine, so will be really interested to hear what you think. Good luck and hope that you get at least some enjoyment from it.
Yes it always came from Jadot.
Bit of DRC available if anyone has a spare 50k or so.
Yes, this is how the internet is democratising wine! Finally in action!
For the price I don’t think it’s a bad option. Not stereotypical burgundy though.
I went to a tasting last night where this was served - cork crumbled a bit but was still providing a solid closure and the wine itself still had plenty of life and was actually rather compelling - air seemed to even wake it up a little rather than cause its immediate demise!
I know it will predate many people here, including current TWS staff, but I was really hoping somebody might know (or could find out) who made this wine. Must be a short list of producers you would think.
It was probably Remoissenet.
I wonder what the original drinking window was suggested to be by TWS. They do err, quite understandably, on the conservative side but this must have surely exceeded it by what, 30 years if the original drink-by stipulation had been say 1988? Remarkable.
